SWORD POLISHING
There are countless sword polishers in Japan of varying
abilities, some famous, some not so well known and we can
employ any of them. However, this may require advance
payment in many cases. The polishers we generally use,
including Naruse Shigekazu, are from the Fujishiro School
and have been polishing in Japan for more than three or four
decades. We have a special arrangement with all our regular
artisans that payment can be deferred until the item has
been returned from Japan. The vast majority of our polishes
are Grade One Polish, which are preferred for Tokubetsu Hozon
level, but we can also offer, in rare cases, a Middle Grade
Polish for some lesser blades or blades that may have
extensive Kizu (flaws). We will only suggest this polish
if we feel the condition of the blade does not warrant the
best polish.
A range is given for each size of blade and grade of
polish and factors such as length, condition and type of
temper will determine the final cost. Extra long blades
and the existence of any Horimono (carving), including
Bo-Hi or Soe-Bi (grooves) will result in increased charges.
We also offer Juyo Grade Polishes and the price will
vary with each piece.
